Bobby Moore said it was his favourite picture of himself. Pelé said, “That photo has gone around the world. I think it was very important for football. We demonstrate that it’s a sport. Win or lose, the example, the friendship, you must pass these on to the next generation.”

John Varley took this masterpiece after Brazil’s 1-0 victory over England during the 1970 FIFA World Cup. The match included many memorable moments: Jairzinho’s goal, Moore’s tackle, a wonder-save from Gordon Banks – and this incredible photograph.

Varley followed Moore after the final whistle, hoping he would meet Pelé. The pair embraced for a split second and – after running towards them – Varley managed to snap an image that is regarded as one of the greatest sporting photographs of all time.

This is your chance to own a piece of footballing history.
